The county court in the Hungarian city of in Kaposvar on Wednesday sentenced Croatia's First Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic to one year and ten months in prison, the Hungarian MTI news agency and the Reuters news agency reported.
"Cacic, 62, received the sentence in absentia for causing a fatal road accident in which two people died in Hungary on January 8, 2010," the MTI reported.
"The court made a partial amendment to the lower court's decision, omitting a 3-year suspension on probation as well as a preliminary discharge," according to the MTI.
The first-instance ruling was made on 29 June this year.
Cacic did not attend today's verdict-delivering hearing.
According to Reuters, Cacic cannot appeal the latest ruling and "must start prison sentence within 1-2 month".
