An investigating judge of the Osijek County Court, acting on a proposal from the Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK), ruled on Friday that four of the six suspects accused of land fraud be released because all the witnesses had been questioned and there were no other grounds for their detention.

The released suspects are: the former Croatian Army Commander, General Mladen Kruljac, former member of Parliament and chairman of the Slavonski Brod County Assembly Zdravko Sockovic, former mayor of Sibinje Ivica Batinic, and member of the Sibinje municipal government Ivan Miskovic.

The other two suspects, businessman Ivan Rimac and haulier Zeljko Garic, remained in detention because of the risk of repeating the alleged crime.

Speaking to the press outside the prison, Kruljac again denied the allegations against him, claiming that he was not guilty. "I've never engaged in any criminal activity, nor will I ever do so," he said.
