The Croatian Justice Ministry confirmed on Thursday evening that it had received from the Serbian authorities a list with the names of 33 people tried on war crimes charges by military courts of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ) and the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SRJ).
The Ministry said that proceedings against 26 people on the list have been suspended.
The ministry said on its website that three people on that list have already been informed that proceedings have been launch against them, adding that the Croatian authorities would notify another four persons within the deadline stipulated by the law.
The decision on the suspension of investigations will be forwarded via the international legal aid mechanism and the Justice Ministry.
"Given that Serbia has not forwarded new lists of people suspected or convicted of war crimes, there is no need for Croatian citizens to file a request for verification if their names are on some lists from Serbia or not," the ministry said.
