In addition to Tottenham’s win against Milan at the San Siro, Tuesday night, the Champions League 1/8 final match will, sadly, be remembered by a stunning lack of discipline showed by the Rossoneri – especially the savage tackle by Mathieu Flamini on Croatia’s Vedran Corluka. After the two-footed tackle, the Croatian fullback Corluka had to be substituted off the pitch and later appeared on the bench walking with crutches. Initial reports say that the international did not suffer any broken bones

In the first leg of the Champions League 1/8 final round, Tottenham scored a surprise win against hosts AC Milan at the San Siro. The current Serie A leaders, however, showed how poor losers they are. Leading the Rossoneri in a saddening display of poor sportsmanship was captain Gennaro Gattusso, who went so far as to attack a Tottenham staff member during play.

But the most savage display was put on by French midfielder Mathieu Flamini when he went in a two-footed tackle against Croatia’s Vedran Corluka. Corluka had to be carried off the pitch and ended the game walking with crutches. Flamini received a yellow card for the tackle.

After the game, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp expressed fury with the Flamini tackle, saying that UEFA has to deal with such violent tackles. Initial reports say that Corluka did not suffer any broken bones, which is quite fortunate given the severity of the challenge.

‘The tackle from Flamini was a horrendous tackle. It was a sending off. He was two or three feet off the floor with two feet. It was a leg-breaking tackle. [Corluka] will have an x-ray tomorrow but I don't think he has broken it but he could have done easily. I'd like [UEFA] to have a look at that tackle. How he doesn't give him a red card, I don't know. It was a leg-breaking tackle!’ Redknapp fumed.
