Social Democratic Party leader Zoran Milanovic said on Friday the latest accusations by former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec were very serious, adding he was convinced that the ruling HDZ party would move the formation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry to clear its name.

Speaking to the press in Dubrovnik, Milanovic said the HDZ would move the establishment of the commission as early as today, also so as not to endanger Croatia's accession to the European Union.

He was asked to comment on Polancec's claim today that Police Director Oliver Grbic warned him in September 2009 that a series of anonymous reports would be filed against HDZ politicians and that the leadership of the ruling party should respond by filing anonymous reports against opposition leaders.

Milanovic said those were very serious accusations by an insider.
