Former Hague war crimes tribunal president Theodor Meron, who was designated presiding judge of the appellate chamber in the cases of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac, on Monday designated himself as pre-appeal judge with responsibility for all pre-appeal proceedings in the case.
In Tuesday's decision on the pre-appeal judge, the UN court said for the first time that US judge Meron was designated presiding judge of the appellate chamber.
Gotovina and Markac were sentenced to 24 and 18 years' imprisonment respectively for crimes committed against Serb civilians during and after the 1995 Operation Storm.
