Longtime Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) member and former MP Jerko Rosin was thrown out of the party at an extraordinary session of the HDZ's Split-Dalmatia County branch, Rosin told reporters on Wednesday, saying it saddened him to have found out about it from the media.

"They probably weren't satisfied with what I recently told the media, yet I said the truth, i.e. that the party's election results were poor," Rosin said, adding that he would not react to today's ousting from the party.

"Nobody from the party called me. I have no regrets. I don't want to impose on those who don't want me."

Rosin is a close friend of former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, who is on trial for corruption, and recently mortgaged his property so that Sanader could be released on bail. Two weeks ago, he resigned to the post of vice president of the HDZ's Split city branch.
