The Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) on Wednesday called on the government to step down and pushed for forming a permanent monitoring committee, comprised of top officials of Croatian political parties.
The HSLS is confident that Croatia needs a new election, party president Darinko Kosor said, adding that social reforms could not be carried out without the positive shock the early election would bring.
He said the country was consumed by a moral and economic crisis that was presently at its peak.
Kosor stressed the HSLS was ready for an early election. There are no calculations on our part about any coalitions and we do not belong to either right or left coalitions, said Kosor.
Commenting on yesterday's appearance of former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader before the parliamentary commission probing the privatisation of the leading Croatian oil and gas company INA, Kosor said that "glorifying his presentation" was unacceptable because he had a year to prepare for it using taxpayers' money.
