Istria County police commissioner Mladen Blaskovic presented in Pula on Tuesday "A Safe Tourist Season", a project involving Croatian police and their colleagues from Austria, Italy and Serbia, while Sibenik County police commissioner Ivica Kostanic announced in Sibenik that four Czech officers would patrol the county until the end of August.

The project was launched in 2006 with the aim to ensure the safety of domestic and foreign tourists along the coast.

In Istria County, the foreign police will help their Croatian colleagues in Pula and Porec until August 31.

In Sibenik County, the Czech police will patrol in Sibenik and Vodice based on a memorandum of understanding and cooperation signed between the Croatian and Czech interior ministries.

The foreign police will wear their uniforms and not carry weapons. They will not undertake any police measures and have the obligation to abide by Croatian regulations. Their task is to help Croatian police in communication with tourists from their countries as well as in crime prevention and traffic safety.
