The Croatian Employers' Association (HUP) is surprised at the views which Finance Minister Slavko Linic expressed when he said that he was shocked at the business community's opposition to changes.

HUP issued a statement on Friday evening, responding that entrepreneurs were no longer shocked but "are trying to save what can be saved now".

Dialogue of social partners is necessary in order "to find a way out of this our rather unfavourable situation. A state of shock is not the best framework. We should in a cool headed manner consider and search for the best solutions for the economy and society," the association said reacting to Linic's statements about employers.

HUP says it is in favour of radical and swift changes in the state and the society, and accuses Linic of pursuing some measures which it views as being contrary to the economic logic.

The effects of the policy Linic promotes and pursues are the further decline in economic activities, Gross Domestic Product, lower employment and a decline in personal consumption and retail trade, HUP said in its strongly-worded response to Linic.
