The president of the Croatian People's Party (HNS), Radmir Cacic, said on Tuesday that the first hearing for a car accident he caused in Hungary last year, in which two people were killed, was scheduled to start at the Municipal Court in Macala in Hungary on 20 September.

"As part of the regular trial held for a car accident I took part in, I've been notified that the first hearing will be held on 20 September at the Macali Municipal Court," Cacic said in a statement, adding that as always he would answer to subpoenas issued by the Hungarian authorities.

Cacic caused a car accident in which two people were killed on the highway to Budapest on 8 January 2010.

Commenting on the possibility of a prison sentence, Cacic said earlier that he was aware that such a verdict would mean the end of his political career, stressing however that he would comply with the Hungarian court's decision.
