Finance Minister Ivan Suker said in Zagreb on Tuesday there was no conflict between the Croatian National Bank (HNB) and the government, adding that business people should not be afraid that the central bank would halt government projects.
Suker said he believed the media misinterpreted Monday's speech by the HNB Governor at a financial conference in Opatija.
"The problem is not what Governor Zeljko Rohatinski said, but comments that have been made about it," Suker said when asked by reporters to comment on Rohatinski's statement that the central bank would no longer lower the reserve requirement rate.
Rohatinski said that there are hitches in Model B (guarantee quotas) and that the reserve requirement rate may not be lowered for another two per cent unless this model functions properly, the minister said, adding that the cooperation between the central bank governor and the government is excellent.
Suker said that Rohatinski had stated the facts to which Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor had also drawn attention in her speech in Opatija.
