Split Mayor Zeljko Kerum on Friday said that he would not run for another term for mayorship in this second largest Croatian city, in the local elections set for next spring.

"I will not stand for mayorship of Split in the elections. My Croatian Civic Party (HGS) has a number of high-quality officials who can candidate for that position," Kerum told the local radio in that Adriatic city on Friday.

"We will announce the name of our candidate in time to promote him or her," Kerum said.

This businessman-turned-politician denied claims that his adherence to upgrading the status of the Marjan Hotel and investments in that project had been the cause of the crisis of his business group.

He said that "this is the best project from Vienna to Istanbul" and that he would later sell for EUR 150 million.
