Former prime minister Ivo Sanader has been allowed by the Zagreb County Court to travel to Split for private reasons, court spokesman Kresimir Devcic confirmed on Thursday evening.

"The permit for him to travel to Split is valid until January 10," Devcic has said, adding that Sanader had asked for permission to go to Split "for private reasons".

Sanader has been released from investigative detention on bail. As precautionary measures, he was ordered to report to the investigating judge every first Monday of the month and not to leave his place of residence without permission.

In case Sanader violates any of the bail terms, he will be sent back to prison, and in case of escape, the 12.6 million kuna bail becomes the ownership of the state.

According to unofficial sources, Sanader was granted permission to travel to Split to visit his sick mother.
