Around 5,000 farmers with some 2,000 tractors are currently protesting in five counties of the Slavonia region. Their representatives have said that if government officials refuse to visit Slavonia for talks with the protesters, the farmers will consider further activities, their representatives said.

Those activities include possible blockades of roads and border crossings and a visit to Zagreb, the farmers said.

Mate Brlosic, president of the Brazda association from Osijek County, said that his association was in touch with farmers' associations from Pozega, Vukovar, Virovitica and Brod-Posavina counties.

Around 1,500 farmers with some 500 tractors have blocked roads in Djakovo, Donji Miholjac, and Ceminac in Osijek County. Around noon, the road in Cepin was blocked as well, Brlosic said.

Apart from the agriculture minister, the protesters also expect Prime Minister Jadraka Kosor to arrive in Slavonia for talks with them.

The protesting farmers insist on the payment of HRK 205 million in late incentives and the rescinding of a 40-percent cut on subsidies.

Brlosic said the protesters were receiving messages of support from a growing number of citizens and farmers' associations from all over the country, who were bringing them food and fuel and offering them financial support in their fight for their demands.

Farmers in the area of Bjelovar, northern Croatia, earlier in the day blocked the city's northern ring-road with some 70 tractors.
