A Dinamo Zagreb fan was badly injured in a fight with Paris Saint Germain supporters in central Paris on Monday night, ahead of a Champions League match between the two football clubs on Tuesday, web portals reported.
The fight ended with 24 arrests and a seriously injured Croatian fan, police said after intervening and restoring the peace in the Place de la Bastille square shortly after midnight.
The France TV Info portal quoted a witness as saying that the Croatian fan suffered "a rather bad chest injury" and that smoke bombs and expandable batons were used in the fight. An injured fan was given medical aid in a fire-fighting vehicle and another was taken to hospital by ambulance, the witness said.
Most of the 24 arrested fans are reportedly Dinamo supporters.
On Sunday, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls issued an order banning Dinamo fans from travelling to the Paris region on Tuesday, explaining that he wanted to "avoid serious security risks to people and property". He said he had been notified by the Croatian authorities that between 150 and 200 violent Dinamo fans, known as Bad Blue Boys, were planning to travel to Paris even though they had not bought tickets for the match.
