The Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Vesna Pusic, said on Friday that the government was "fine-tuning" amendments to the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) law as demanded by the European Commission.
Reuters news agency quoted an unnamed source in Brussels as saying on Thursday that the issue of possible sanctions against Croatia over the law was likely to be included on the agenda of a Commission meeting next Wednesday. The Commission would neither confirm nor deny the report.
"We'll see how this whole matter ends. We're still fine-tuning that bill. When it's finished, we'll see what reactions are like," Pusic told reporters after visiting the Eurocampus in Zagreb.
Reuters said that the the European Commission was likely to punish Croatia next week in a row over extradition rules that has marred the country's first months as a member of the European Union and may endanger EU aid for border control improvements.
