On the occasion of Statehood Day and the 20th anniversary of Croatia's independence, state delegations headed by President Ivo Josipovic, Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic and Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Saturday morning laid wreaths and lit candles at the Homeland Altar on Mt. Medvednica overlooking Zagreb, paying tribute to all people who gave their lives for the Homeland.

In the period from 1994 to 2000, the highest state delegations and state officials, as well as foreign officials on visit to Croatia visited the Homeland Altar on the occasion of national holidays, as did foreign ambassadors after giving their credentials to the president of the state.

The monument was made by sculptor Kuzma Kovacic.
