The case of former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader is a matter for the Croatian judiciary and Croatia's accession to the European Union, for which there is strong support, is not tied to one person's fate, Swedish PM Fredrik Reinfeldt said in Meise near Brussels on Thursday.

The enlargement process is not tied to one person. Croatia is a country with a large support for becoming a new member, let's wrap this up, and the proceedings against the former premier are a matter for the Croatian judiciary, Reinfeldt said upon arriving at a meeting of European People's Party (EPP) leaders.

He had been asked about the influence the proceedings against Sanader could have on the completion of Croatia's EU accession talks.

The Croatian PM and leader of the Croatian Democratic Union party, Jadranka Kosor, will also attend the EPP meeting in Meise.

Sanader was arrested in Austria last week on an international warrant issued by Croatia, which has requested his extradition on corruption charges.
