The number of injured people in clashes between disgruntled Bosnian Army war veterans and the police in Sarajevo rose to over 60, including a score of police officers, according to reports from the Sarajevo clinic hospital.

Earlier on Wednesday nearly 4,000 protesters staged a rally in front of the building of the Bosniak Croat entity's government in the Bosnian capital. Protesting against the government's plan to reduce their entitlements, war veterans were prevented by the police from raiding the government's building.

The police used tear gas.

The spokeswoman for the hospital said that a majority of wounded protesters and police officers sustained light injures by tear gas.

One patient, however, had his skull broken.

During the clashes, leaders of war veterans called for defusion of tensions.

Some of protesters hurled stones at the building and set on fire two police sentry boxes in front of the government's building as well as one police sentry box by the U.S Embassy in the vicinity.

One of the leaders of the protester said that riots had been caused by fans of the Sarajevo soccer club who were on their way to a match with the "Siroki Brijeg" club.

He branded them as provocateurs.
