The inaugural session of the new Serbian parliament will take place in Belgrade on Thursday morning and a few hours later, the new parliament will hold a special session at which President-elect Tomislav Nikolic will be sworn in.

The agenda of the parliament's first meeting includes the confirmation of the newly-elected deputies' terms, the appointment of a parliament speaker and deputy speakers and the appointment of other working groups of the top national law-making body.

The ceremony at which Nikolic will be sworn in will be attended by foreign diplomats and representatives of international institutions in Belgrade, religious dignitaries and top officials from the Serbian judiciary, police, army and other institutions.

Nikolic, who defeated the incumbent Boris Tadic in the presidential runoff on 20 May, will thus take office for his first five-year presidential tenure.

The ceremony of Nikolic's inauguration will be held in Belgrade on 11 June.
