Kostelic fifth in men's World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden

Croatia's best Alpine skier Ivica Kostelic finished fifth in a men's World Cup giant slalom race in Adelboden, Switzerland, on Saturday, achieving the second best result of his career.

Kostelic ended 24 hundredths of a second behind the winners, Cyprien Richard of France and Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who both clocked in at 2:25.28. France's Thomas Fanara came third.

Kostelic improved his position in the overall World Cup rankings and is now third with 404 points. Svindal is first with 435 points and Austrian Michael Walchhofer is second with 409 points.

A slalom race is scheduled for Sunday.
