President Ivo Josipovic said in Sibenik on Sunday he was confident the outcome of the referendum on Croatia's European Union membership would be convincing support among citizens.

Josipovic said he expected "over 60 percent, even over 70 percent of support at the referendum," adding that such a result was possible if the approach was good and citizens were informed about the EU.

"The important thing is that the result isn't minimal but convincing, because that means the continuation of reforms and of the fight for a better and European Croatia," said Josipovic.

He also visited one of the oldest monasteries in the coastal town of Sibenik which has being renovated for years thanks to Benedictine European funds.
