Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Saturday that the measures in amendments to draft negotiating positions, requested by some EU member-countries, were of a technical nature and that they would not result in any significant changes to the schedule of Croatia's EU accession.

"I believe the (amendments) are mostly of a technical nature and that nothing unexpected has happened," Josipovic told reporters when asked if the target completion of policy areas in Croatia's EU talks would be affected by requests which, according to diplomatic sources, were submitted last night by some EU member countries, asking for guarantees for the period during which Croatia will be monitored.

According to diplomatic sources, representatives of some countries on the working group for EU enlargement want the monitoring of Croatia to be stepped up for the period from the completion of its EU talks until its accession to include the possibility of adopting appropriate measures in case Croatia fails to fulfil its obligations, based on the monitoring and at the proposal of the European Commission.

"I talked yesterday with EC President Jose Manuel Barroso, who reiterated his support to Croatia, and the dates that we discussed were all expected. I don't expect anything special to happen in that regard," Josipovic told reporters in his office after his regular meeting with members of the public.
