The Croatian government on Friday approved emergency aid in the amount of one million kuna to the southern municipality of Metkovic for removing the consequences of the latest floods in that area.

The aid comes from budgetary reserves and the government approved it following a request for assistance from Metkovic Mayor Stipe Gabric, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said.

"I propose that the aid be used primarily for the purchase of fuel for water pumps, boots, food and other items so that the damage caused by the latest floods is removed as soon as possible," said Kosor.
