Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Thursday authorised Zagreb lawyer Goran Suic to represent him in investigations being conducted into him in Croatia.

Suic told Hina he visited Sanader in the Salzburg prison, where he has been in custody since Friday's arrest, and that the former PM gave him power of attorney in investigations into the siphoning of money via the Fimi Media marketing firm and unlawful operations involving the power company HEP and the petrochemical company Dioki.

Suic said he would include several colleagues, including attorney Ivan Lovric, in the defence of Sanader.

Asked when he would visit the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) to examine the file on Sanader, Suic said it was too early to talk about that.

Suic said Sanader felt well in the Salzburg prison and that he had no complaints about his treatment there.

USKOK suspects Sanader of conspiring with the other suspects to siphon off money from government departments and state-owned companies via Fimi Media. He is also suspected of abuse of office in unlawful operations involving HEP and Dioki.

In earlier statements to the press, Sanader dismissed accusations of corruption.
