Substantial economic recovery of Southeast Europe can be expected as of 2014, Peter Sanfey, an economist with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), said in an interview with the Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz published on Wednesday.

The economic outlook for the region is worrying so we expect to see some minor economic growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region in 2013. We hope that in 2014 there will be a general recovery in the eurozone and in the world, which will certainly help your country, said Sanfey, who is one of the authors of the EBRD's latest report on the economic situation in transition countries.

Sanfey recalled that the entire region of Southeast Europe had a problem attracting foreign investments, which have been on the decline for years. He said that this was the result of poor local economies and global problems as investors had become far more cautious.

Sanfey said that the EBRD would continue its involvement in the region, noting that it would focus its support on the private sector, corporations and financial institutions, but that a portion of funds would be allocated for infrastructure projects as well.
