The Croatian government on Thursday decided to file for Croatia's entry into the European Economic Area and Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic told reporters this created possibilities for Croatia to withdraw additional funds, but that Croatia still needed to negotiate its status.

"We have decided to ask to be admitted and to start negotiating Croatia's entry into the European Economic Area. This is a common market in which some non-EU member are also included such as Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland...but Croatia's status must be negotiated," Pusic said.

She confirmed that the European Commission was negotiating with CEFTA on liberalisation of relations between the two free trade zones, announcing that she would discuss this issue with the new Serbian Foreign Minister, on the margins of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
