Several thousand war veterans and citizens, many of whom attended vigil prayers after last nights Holy Mass held for General Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac in the Zagreb Cathedral, gathered in the Zagreb's main square Trg Bana Josipa Jelacica where they are following the live broadcast of a hearing before the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) at which the final verdict against Croatian Gotovina and Markac is expected to be handed down.

The atmosphere was peaceful and many veterans wore uniforms of their army units, carried Croatian flags and photos of the two generals.

A hearing at which the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague is scheduled to deliver its judgement in the case of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac started shortly after 9 AM on Friday.

At the time of Operation Storm in August 1995, Gotovina served as Commander of the Split Military District and Markac as Commander of the Special Police. Gotovina has been in the ICTY's custody since December 10, 2005 and Markac since March 11, 2004. The trial opened on March 11, 2008.
