The United States expects that Slovenia will soon begin the process of ratification of Croatia's European Union accession treaty, according to a source from the Office of Croatian President Ivo Josipovic who had a brief talk with US Vice-President Joe Biden at a security conference in Munich.
Josipovic and Biden had a brief talk at a formal dinner given by Bavarian Premier Horst Seehofer for participants in the Munich Security Conference on Saturday evening.
Biden said that both Croatia and Slovenia were partners to the United States in NATO and that he expected that the dispute between the two countries over the now defunct Slovenian bank Ljubljanska Banka would be quickly resolved.
Biden and Josipovic welcomed the forthcoming accession of Croatia to the European Union and expressed hope for further economic and military cooperation.
At the dinner, Josipovic also talked with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Al Tani, about activities that followed a visit by a high-level Croatian delegation to Qatar last November when a foundation was laid for economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Qatari ministers of economic affairs and energy are soon to visit Croatia, after which the Emir of Qatar will also come, it was announced.
The Munich Security Conference ends on Sunday with debates on Syria and Mali.
