Swedish Premier Olof Palme was killed by an assassin hired by the Yugoslavian secret service, UDBA, in order to discredit the so-called Croatian ‘diaspora’, the German political magazine, Focus, claims in its latest edition. The magazine relies on the testimony of Vinko Sindicic (pictured) before the German State Attorney and the Bavarian State Criminal Office.

The alleged assassin, who lived in Hamburg at the time Palme was assassinated, today is 65-years old and resides in Zagreb where he works for a private security firm, the Focus reports based on an independent investigation, but does not name names.

Vinko Sindicic, a former Yugoslavian secret service associate who spent 10 years in a Scottish prison for attempted murder, mentioned some key details related to the assassination of the Swedish PM. The weapon used in the assassination and which has not been recovered to this day was a Smith & Wesson .357 magnum revolver, smuggled into Sweden from the USA, Sindicic claimed in the 2008 hearing. Palme was closely monitored and followed by agents of the former Yugoslavian secret service, who noted cracks in the premier’s security. The popular Swedish social-democrat Palme was killed on February 28, 1986 after visiting a cinema in downtown Stockholm. His assassination shocked Europe.

The Focus reports that Sindicic stated during the hearing that Palme’s assassination was planned by the Serbian secret service as part of a campaign to discredit Croats, who were to take the fall for the assassination.

German authorities sent the transcript of Sindicic’s 2008 testimony to Sweden, but Stockholm never responded or issued any response which, according to the Focus, was very odd to Berlin.
