The ministers of veterans' affairs, defence and health, Predrag Matic, Ante Kotromanovic and Rajko Ostojic, visited the eastern town of Vukovar on Tuesday where they met with local veterans' associations to inform them about the government's idea to create a Homeland War Hero medal that would be named after General Blago Zadro, commander of Croatian defence forces in Vukovar's Borovo Naselje district who was killed in the war in the early 1990s.

"Blago Zadro was a true hero of the Homeland War, like many other Croatian soldiers," Defence Minister Ante Kotromanovic said.

Veterans' Affairs Minister Predrag Matic expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, saying that his ministry was open to all Croatian war veterans and was ready to help in dealing with problems faced by the veteran community.

The topics discussed included the status of juvenile volunteers of the Homeland War, medical checkups, and the construction of monuments honouring the defenders of Vukovar.

Responding to questions from the press, Matic said that the Veterans' Register would be made public once all legal conditions were met, adding that true veterans had nothing to fear from its publication.
