The head of the Islamic community on Croatia, Mufti Sevko Omerbasic, on Thursday morning held a service in the mosque in Zagreb celebrating Ramadan Bairam, and on that occasion he emphasised the importance of peace and coexistence of Muslim believers with members of other religious communities and with the entire society.

Islam is a religion which is currently being abused and attacked to the greatest extent in the world. Islam is being manipulated by both its opponents and followers, Omerbasic said adding that Islam arrived in the world as the Divine mercy and not as a destroying force.

The grand mufti in Croatia warned that many movements in Europe, being used by political parties for their gain, made unacceptable accusations against Islam.

On the other hand, many serious Islamic scholars have been warning for years that Islam cannot be mixed with political matters which are contrary to this religion's idea of politics, he said.

He urged the Islamic faithful to do their best to prevent deterioration of relations with followers of other religions

Commenting on the completion of the month of fasting, the dignitary expressed satisfaction with a rising number of young people who took part in fasting and religious services during that holy month.

Omerbasic also expressed satisfaction with a pace of the completion of the construction of the Islamic centre in Rijeka.

He said that the Muslims in Croatia would soon be one of the few Islamic communities with Europe to have its two religious centres.
