The German Ambassador to Sarajevo, Ulrike Maria Knotz, has said that the failure to appoint the Prime Minister of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the reason why Chancellor Angela Merkel will not visit Bosnia during her tour of the region.
The German chancellor began the tour with a visit to Croatia on Monday afternoon.
Ambassador Knotz said at a news conference in Banja Luka today that the German authorities had expected the head of the Bosnian government to be appointed before Merkel's trip to the region. Bosnia's failure to do so is the reason why she will not stop in Sarajevo, according to the diplomat.
Chancellor Merkel had hoped that the chairman of the Council of Ministers would have been appointed so that she could have a partner for talks, the ambassador said, adding that Merkel's non-arrival in Sarajevo did not mean that Germany ceased to be interested in Bosnia.
General elections were held in Bosnia last October but the country is still without a state-level government.
