Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Wednesday she was certain that the result of the forthcoming referendum in Slovenia, even if it were unfavourable for Croatia, would in no way affect Croatia's EU accession negotiations.

When asked in a radio interview for a comment on the statement by Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor that Slovenians should vote for the border arbitration deal with Croatia in the June 6 referendum because the agreement would give Slovenia access to the high seas, Kosor replied that the agreement between her and Pahor was a public document and that anyone could read it.

"Whatever the Slovenians decide, it will be their decision and we cannot influence it. (...) But I'm sure that even if they rejected the agreement, it would have no effect on our (EU accession) negotiations and conclusion of the negotiations," the Croatian prime minister said in an interview with the commercial radio network Media Servis.

She was also asked to comment on a statement made by the Chairman of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Council of Ministers, Nikola Spiric, ahead of Croatian President Ivo Josipovic's visits to Banja Luka and Derventa last weekend.

Spiric said that the success of Josipovic's policy would be measured by the way in which Croatia dealt with the problem of Serbs, who he said had been "expelled as a people and have returned as an ethnic minority."

"I have not heard that statement, but the truth is quite certainly different. (...) No one was expelled from Croatia, that's a historical fact, and we're making huge efforts to help those who left and who are Croatian citizens to return," Kosor said.
