Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Wednesday afternoon arrived in Otocec ob Krki, in Slovenia, where he began informal talks with his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Tuerk on bilateral relations, relations in the region and the latest developments in the Mediterranean.
The meeting of the two heads of state was announced only on Tuesday, but Hina learnt from the Slovenian President's Office that the meeting had been discussed for a while and that Tuerk and Josipovic were in permanent contact.
Asked if the two presidents would also talk about the closure of Croatia's EU entry talks, for which senior Slovenian officials claim it is in Slovenia's national interest, sources in Ljubljana answered in the affirmative.
Announcing the Josipovic-Tuerk meeting, the media today reported that relations between the two countries are stable and are improving, particularly after the border arbitration agreement, which the Slovenian opposition disputed for a long time, came into effect.
The media also said that Josipovic and Tuerk will hold talks behind closed doors. The two countries' ambassadors will not be present at the meeting, as it is usually foreseen by the protocol.
Tuerk and Josipovic already held several formal and informal meetings. Tuerk attended Josipovic's inauguration in February 2010, which was followed by the incumbent Croatian president's first visit to Slovenia and Slovenian president's official visit to Croatia. They also met at regional and international events and on less formal occasions.
