The right wing coalition headed by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won the most votes in Croatia but also ex-pat votes which traditionally go to the party at all elections and in the European Parliament election held on Sunday the party gained 61% of ex-pat votes while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with its coalition partners won 13% of the votes outside Croatia.

Similarly to the turnout in Croatia, voting outside Croatia too showed a poor turnout and so only 6,432 people cast their ballots in 51 countries at 82 polling stations.

Apart from these two large coalitions, not one other party slate passed the threshold of five percent.

The highest turnout was shown in Bosnia and Herzegovina with 2,440 voters giving their vote to the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Croatian Party of Rights Dr. Ante Starcevic (HSP AS) and BUZ pensioners' party coalition gaining 73% of the vote in that country while the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Croatian People's Party (HNS) and Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) coalition gaining 10% of the vote.

In Afghanistan, 164 Croatian troops and policemen currently on a UN peace mission in that country cast their ballots in favour of the HDZ coalition giving the coalition 21% of their votes while the SDP coalition gained 12% and the Croatian Labour Party gaining 9.8% and the coalition of regional parties of Slavonia and Dalmatia with the Green Party getting 7.8% of the vote in the mission.
