The anti-corruption office USKOK has indicted former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec for abuse of office and powers, and attorney P.M. for inciting the commission of said crime, the State Prosecutor's Office (DORH) said on its website on Monday, citing only Polancec's initials, too.

Under the indictment filed at the Zagreb County Court, Polancec abused office and powers as deputy PM and economy minister in Zagreb and Vukovar between July and October 2008 to help P.M. obtain illegal gain.

At P.M.'s urging, Polancec arranged that the attorney draw up an expert legal study despite knowing, according to USKOK, that neither the Economy Ministry nor the government needed such a study.

It was arranged that the ministry would pay HRK 500,000 (some EUR 70,000) for the study, regardless of its content or scope, according to USKOK.

The attorney wrote a 19-page study which was never used. USKOK claims that four pages were copied from a work by another author and that Polancec approved that the Economy Ministry pay half a million kuna for it, providing P.M. with illegal gain and embezzling state funds. In the indictment, USKOK suggests that P.M. be deprived of the illegal gain.
