Croatian President Ivo Josipovic had a working meeting with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in Tripoli on Tuesday, on the margins of an EU-Africa summit, the President's Office said in a statement.

During their first meeting, the two heads of state confirmed the traditionally good bilateral relations and expressed their readiness to further advance relations between their countries, particularly in the economic field. In that context, Josipovic announced a visit to Libya by Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and Economy Minister Djuro Popijac to discuss economic relations at the level of the two governments and to remove any administrative barriers to trade as soon as possible.

Also on Tuesday, President Josipovic met with representatives of Croatian companies operating in Libya, who acquainted him with their current projects and business opportunities in Libya.

This year's summit was held under the title "Investment, Economic Growth and Job Creation" and Croatia attended as an observer. Among the topics discussed were development goals, bilateral trade, and illegal migrants in Europe.

On the margins of the conference, Josipovic had informal meetings with many European and African statesmen attending the two-day summit.

From Libya, the president of Croatia travels to Astana, Kazakhstan, for a summit of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), scheduled for December 1-2.
