Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Friday held talks with British Foreign Secretary William Hague about the promotion of the two countries' political and economic relations in light of Croatia's EU entry, the government said in a statement.

Milanovic and Hague, who is on his first official visit to Croatia, talked about the promotion of bilateral relations, in light of Croatia's EU admission, saying that the Croatian-British area of cooperation was broadening.

They tackled the need to increase trade and investments. The two officials also talked about tourism, given the large number of British tourists visiting Croatia.

Milanovic and Hague also addressed the situation in Southeast Europe. Hague underlined Croatia's role as the leader in the region.

On Thursday evening, Hague met Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic. After the talks, Hague told a news conference that London saluted everything the government and the citizens had done to transform Croatia, which joins the European Union on July 1, stressing that Great Britain and Croatia would cooperate as equal partners even more closely on EU reforms and the continuation of enlargement to Southeast European countries.

He said the friendship and partnership between the two countries was confirmed last week when Croatian President Ivo Josipovic visited London, which Hague said wanted to cooperate with Zagreb in shaping the EU's foreign policy, the EU's internal reforms and enlargement to the Western Balkans.
