Croatian, Italian foreign ministers hold talks

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Gordan Jandrokovic, on Thursday held talks with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini who is accompanying Italian President Giorgio Napolitano who is on an official visit to Croatia, the Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry said in a statement.

Jandrokovic thanked Frattini for Italy's support to Croatia during its EU membership talks.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the two countries' excellent bilateral relations.

Frattini congratulated the Croatian government on successfully completed EU entry talks and reforms implemented during the EU membership negotiations.

Jandrokovic said that by meeting the set criteria, Croatia had shown that it has the necessary capacities for membership in the EU.

The talks also focused on the issue of digital signals of Croatian television stations disturbed by transmitters from Italy. The two ministers said that progress was made but that there were still some problems with transmitting signals in Istria. Italy said it would take urgent measures to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

The talks also focused on the situation in Southeast Europe, notably the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
