The Croatian government will initiate a procedure to terminate the agreement with the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on abolishing visa requirements because Croatia will have to apply the European Union's visa regime as of its accession to the EU, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs said on Wednesday.

However, since citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina do not need a visa to enter the EU if they have a biometric passport, neither will Croatia require citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina with a valid biometric passport to have a visa when entering Croatia as of July 1, the ministry said in a statement.

Given the length of the border between the two countries and Croatia's lasting interest in good neighbourly relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia has put forward a proposal to the European Council to allow citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to enter Croatia with ID cards alone, as has been the case so far. The two countries are working on new agreements on border crossings and border traffic, in accordance with EU legislation, to make life easier for people living along the border, the statement said.
