Croatia Airlines (CA) lost around one million kuna on Tuesday due to a strike by the unions of pilots and cabin staff and if the two unions continue their strike the loss could exceed two million kuna at the end of the day, the management said on Wednesday.
"Direct damages yesterday amount to one million kuna and seeing that today we had more passengers booked than on Tuesday, damages today could be even greater if the unions continue their strike", CA spokesman Davor Janusic told the media.
Apart from direct losses, which are mostly due to hiring replacement aircraft, the company is suffering indirect costs with its reputation being damaged and a fall in bookings for the coming period, he said.
CA's cabin crew and pilots unions continued their strike for the second day on Wednesday, demanding that their rights contained in the collective agreement valid until now be retained and claiming that they would not give in to having their incomes reduced.
A representative of the flight attendants said that stewardesses would remain on strike until their demands were met despite threats by Transport Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic that they would all be fired.
