A Croatian soldier serving in the peace mission in Afghanistan sustained light injuries to his leg when a helicopter of the Afghan National Army (ANA), carrying among others two members of the Croatian Air Force, overturned while trying to land at 9.05 am Croatian time, the Croatian Defence Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The two Croatians, a commissioned officer and a noncommissioned officer, and two other passengers aboard the helicopter, were examined at a US military base in eastern Afghanistan. The noncommissioned officer was found to have sustained a bruise to his knee, while the commissioned officer sustained no injuries.

Both Croatians were released upon medical examination and they were to be transferred during the day to their base in Kabul to continue with their regular tasks.

The ANA helicopter, which was flown by an ISAF pilot from a NATO member country, overturned during landing at an ISAF base in the east of Afghanistan between Kabul and Jalalabad. The helicopter was carrying five ISAF troops, three ANA members and a translator.

The Defence Ministry said it would report about the cause of the accident as soon as it received relevant information from the ISAF.
