An investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court on Saturday remanded in investigative custody for one month Croatian Football Federation (HNS) vice-president and former referee Zeljko Siric and the president of the Referee Commission, Stjepan Djedovic, who were arrested on Friday for fixing matches of the Croatian Football League.
Siric and Djedovic were remanded in investigative custody because of the risk of witness tampering and the risk of their repeating the offences they are suspected of, attorney Kresimir Vilajtovic said.
The two football officials were arrested after taking from an undercover investigator a bribe of 30,000 euros for refereeing at games of the first division of the Croatian Football League.
The amount was a part of a bribe of some 100,000 euros they had allegedly demanded for fair refereeing at several matches of the last national championship.
The media have reported that after taking the bribe the football officials were to have ensured fair refereeing for the football club Hajduk. One of Hajduk's senior officials acted as a confidential informant for the anti-corruption agency USKOK in this case.
