Social Democratic Party (SDP) officials Josip Leko and Nenad Stazic, and Milorad Batinic of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) were elected Deputy Speakers of the new parliament on Thursday, while the other two Deputy Speakers, coming from the ranks of the Opposition, will be elected at a later date.

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), whose representatives will fill the posts of two Deputy Speakers, allocated for the Opposition, said on Wednesday that its candidates would be Jadranka Kosor and Vladimir Seks.

The outgoing Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor can assume the new duty only after she transfers her powers to PM Designate Zoran Milanovic.

The newly-established parliamentary Credentials and Privileges Commission (MIP) today presented to the Sabor a report on the December 4 election, the elected MPs, those who have to freeze their parliamentary mandate due to their other functions and duties or for some other reason, and about those who will replace them in parliamentary seats.

Slaven Hojski was appointed new Sabor Secretary to replace Josip Sesar, without votes of HDZ MPs who were against Sesar's replacement.

Jadranka Blazevic was appointed to replace Ivan Bukarica in the post of the deputy secretary of the parliament and the plenary session secretary. This decision was not supported by the HDZ.

In the new 151-seat parliament, the governing majority consisting of the four-party Kukuriku coalition will hold 80 seats, and eight deputies of ethnic minorities have also offered their backing to the ruling coalition.

The Kukuriku coalition comprises the SDP, the HNS, the Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) and the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS).

The opposition HDZ will have 47 seats together with its partners - the Democratic Centre (DC) and the Croatian Civic Party (HGS). The Croatian Labour Party and the regional Croatian Democratic Party of Slavonia and Baranja will each hold six seats. The independent slate of retired priest Ivan Grubisic won two seats and the Croatian Party of Rights Dr. Ante Starcevic will have one deputy.
