On Monday, during the second day of his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic met a group of Croatian business people and Economy Minister Ahmed Macki, a source close to the Croatian delegation told the news agency Hina

Although as many as 17 Croatian companies were doing business in Oman, the two countries's annual trade amounts to approximately US$ 2 million, which indicates that not all potentials have been exhausted.

The Omani minister expressed interest in cooperation in tourism and the participation of Croatian companies in infrastructure projects in Oman.

President Mesic was present at the signing of the agreement on avoiding double taxation and preventing income tax evasion, a memorandum of cooperation in tourism and a memorandum of cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of the Croatian Foreign Ministry and the Diplomatic Institute of the Omani foreign ministry.

Mesic and Macki agreed that currently the biggest obstacle to the development of economic relations was Croatia's strict visa regime. Mesic said the Croatian government adopted a decision to immediately revoke visa requirements for people with diplomatic and official partners, underlining that efforts need to be made to further liberalise the visa regime.
