Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Monday announced that parliament was expected to adopt a budget revision at an extraordinary summer sitting.

She was speaking to press after a Presidency meeting of her Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party.

Kosor said the parliamentary sitting would focus on the budget revision and that she planned to discuss it with the HDZ's coalition partners.

The revised budget will focus on collecting funds for a referendum on Labour Act amendments and indemnifying farmers whose crops have been damaged in recent floods, she said.

Asked whose budgetary funds would be cut, Kosor said this was being discussed and that proposals must be discussed with the coalition partners, adding the decision must be made by the coalition government.

Kosor stressed she expected unionists to submit the signatures they had collected for calling a referendum.

Kosor said she had expected the signatures to have been submitted already so that the interior and administration ministries could check them and so that all preparations for the referendum could be made.

Kosor said the government would not rest the whole summer and that parliament would sit too.

Asked if she was considering withdrawing the bill of amendments to the Labour Act, thus avoiding the referendum, Kosor said the bill had not been included on parliament's agenda and that the first task was to honour the decision on the referendum.
