The parliamentary opposition on Tuesday criticised the Croatian National Bank for the absence of concrete measures and activities so as to help Croatia overcome the crisis, and the regional HDSSB was the most vociferous critic accusing the central bank of being alienated from the Croatian state and people.
During a parliamentary debate on the HNB report on the financial situation in the first half of 2012, Boro Grubisic of the HDSSB criticised the central bank for doing nothing to improve the trends regarding the country's GDP or employment.
Grubisic said that the HNB's foreign exchange policy favoured tycoons and importers.
The Croatian Labour Party criticised the HNB for protecting the interests of foreign banks operating in Croatia instead of interests of Croatian citizens,
"The HNB did nothing to back the economic growth and it cannot be exempt from responsibility for a bad economic situation in Croatia," Branko Vuksic said during the debate. He also criticised the HNB for having no clear position on which inflation rate it could consider stable.
Martina Dalic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said the central bank was the best staffed institution to detect causes of problems.
Srdjan Gjurkovic of the ruling Croatian People's Party (HNS) said it was the lack of cooperation between the HDZ, while it had been in power, and the HNB that had resulted in serious problems.
