Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic will make an official visit to Berlin on Wednesday to meet for talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Croatian government's press service announced on Monday.
The main topics of the talks are expected to be ratification of Croatia's EU accession treaty and strengthening of bilateral relations, especially economic cooperation between the two countries. After the meeting, the two heads of government are due to hold a joint press conference.
In late August the German government passed a bill on the accession treaty between Croatia and the European Union, laying the ground for the timely ratification of the document by the Bundestag. The German government said then it was closely following the implementation of reforms in Croatia and that Germany and Croatia had "excellent" relations thanks to their centuries-long cultural ties and the large number of Croats living in Germany.
The Bundestag is expected to ratify Croatia's EU accession treaty in November.
Milanovic is also due to visit the Friedrich Ebert Foundation where he is to deliver a talk on Croatia and the EU.
Merkel made an official visit to Zagreb less than a year ago, and this will be the first official meeting between her and Milanovic.
